Lyrics

RODEO CLOWN

Grandpa used to take me to the rodeo.

The cowboys on the broncs and bulls they really stole the show.

Grandpa asked me son, “If you had to choose just one, who’d get the crown?”

I’d give it to the rodeo clown.

Turned eighteen and left home for the show in Abilene.

I was small but I could move like no one they had seen.

When the meanest bull gave up chasing me the cowboys gathered round.

“We got ourselves a rodeo clown.”

Paint on a smile while I cry inside.

I got no name. I still got my pride.

No one tips their hat when I walk through town.

But I’ll pick ‘em up when they fall down.

I’m a rodeo clown.

Met my toughest rival, a bull named Devil’s Pride.

Seven broken ribs twenty stiches in my side.

All the cowboys knew when those horns were bearing down, I’d stand my ground.

My clowning finally ended when the ranches died away.

The bulls went off to slaughter, the cowboys went astray.

Win or lose I won’t refuse the noble chance to help you off the ground.

I’ll always be a rodeo clown.

Paint on a smile while I cry inside.

I got no name. I still got my pride.

No one tips their hat when I walk through town.

But I’ll pick ‘em up when they fall down.

I’ll pick ‘em up when they fall down.

I’m a rodeo clown.

I’m a rodeo clown.

I’m a rodeo clown.
